the look

Rich, warm and a little unexpected.

This bathroom is built around the depth and warmth of glossy chocolate brown.

Square tiles create a dramatic backdrop behind the vanity, while pale cream fluted tiles introduce a quieter texture and stop the darker colour from overwhelming the room. A warm oak vanity adds another natural layer and softens the harder tiled surfaces.

The tumbled marble checkerboard floor brings pattern into the scheme, mixing creamy neutrals with warm Rosso marble and adding movement without introducing another dominant colour.

Aged brass runs throughout the room — from the tap and the ribbed glass wall lights to the towel hook — adding warmth and a softly polished finish.

Striped towels, playful artwork and greenery loosen everything up and keep the room from feeling too serious or overly coordinated.

The result is rich and characterful, but still calm — a bathroom where colour, texture and pattern do the decorating.

The Palette

Let chocolate bring the depth, then lighten everything around it.

Deep brown anchors the scheme, while pale stone and natural oak provide contrast. Rust, burgundy and brass tones bring in smaller hits of colour and stop the neutrals from feeling too safe.

  • 50% Warm Neutrals

Pale stone, cream and natural oak create the lighter foundation, balancing the richness of the darker tiles.

  • 35% Chocolate

Deep glossy brown provides the defining colour, concentrated around the vanity to create depth without darkening the entire room.

  • 15% Warm Accents

Rosso marble, burgundy and aged brass bring smaller hits of warmth through the flooring, textiles, artwork and fittings.

  • 01 Make One Surface the Hero

Use a stronger finish in one concentrated area rather than everywhere. Here, glossy chocolate tiles create the focal point behind the vanity while the surrounding surfaces stay quieter.

  • 02 Mix Your Tile Shapes

Combine different scales and formats rather than using one tile throughout. Square, linear and checkerboard surfaces create depth, while the restrained colour palette keeps them connected.

  • 03 Warm Up The Hard Surfaces

Bathrooms naturally contain lots of stone, tile and metal. Timber, woven texture, towels and greenery soften those harder materials and make the room feel more inviting.

  • 04 Don't Make It Too Serious

Artwork and unexpected decorative details bring personality to a functional room. A bathroom is the perfect place to have a little more fun.
